What Codex does

Codex is OpenAI's coding agent for understanding repositories, implementing and testing features, fixing bugs, and reviewing changes across app, editor, and terminal surfaces.

For controlled production work, its agentic capability should sit behind explicit scope, project instructions, test-first changes, reviewable commits, and a fresh release gate.

OpenAI's September 3 Astra API announcement describes limited organizational access, not general availability. It is not evidence that every Codex account or client can select Astra; verify the actual model and access surface before a comparison.

New enterprise controls cover browser destinations and actions, native-app access, and saved approval policies on supported clients and workspaces. These administrative controls do not remove other permission prompts or grant blanket authority to publish.
