What n8n does

This partial n8n profile records a narrow upgrade-review boundary from official release notes; it is not a hands-on recommendation.

October 12 review of n8n 2.42.6: the backend blocks adding or editing deprecated Function, Function Item and LangChain Code nodes on workflow creation, update and import. Deletion and migration to a non-deprecated typeVersion remain allowed. Unchanged directly saved workflows still run; fresh-instance backup imports can fail. Inline, URL or file sub-workflows and existing deprecated chat tools can also fail their execution checks. Do not assume a saved workflow is exempt in every calling mode.

n8n 2.39.8 includes a legacy data-encryption-key repair. The linked official fix describes a pre-2.20 migration case where a stored data-encryption value equals the current instance key and was not recognized by earlier recovery checks. The repair re-wraps that value through the existing AES-256-GCM migration path. This is a compatibility repair, not evidence that credentials were leaked.

The September 21, 2026 release 2.39.10 limits declarative routing evaluation during base URL ownership checks. Its linked change restricts that check to baseURL fields while retaining nested overrides; normal request preparation is unchanged. This is a dated release fact, not a claim that 2.39.10 will remain the latest version.

Adoption checks

  • Before upgrading or restoring, inventory deprecated nodes and their calling modes. Have the maintainer migrate affected nodes and rehearse representative saves, imports and runs in a separately approved isolated environment. Do not disable the deprecated-node safety block as a routine workaround. ShipStackLab has not tested this release or inspected your workflows; compatibility remains UNKNOWN.
  • Identify the installed version and hosting owner before deciding whether an upgrade is relevant. For an older self-managed installation, preserve a recoverable database backup and the existing encryption key securely before migration; do not change or disclose the key merely to reproduce a release-note example.
  • Have the administrator review the official migration details and current supported upgrade path. In an authorized test environment, confirm existing credentials remain usable and representative workflows still behave as intended. Do not edit encryption rows by hand or infer exposure from a version number alone.
  • ShipStackLab has not independently tested these fixes. Whether your instance has the affected legacy key format or routing behavior remains UNKNOWN until inspected; managed-service upgrades belong to the service operator.
